The Presidential Record
Every Monday the site publishes a brief covering the previous Monday to Sunday: the presidential documents (executive orders, proclamations, memoranda, notices and determinations) and the documents of the Federal Election Commission and the Election Assistance Commission that were published in the Federal Register that week. Every item links to its official text on federalregister.gov.
How a brief is made
- The list of documents, their titles, numbers, dates, citations and links are copied by software from the Federal Register API at the time the brief is made. They are not written by AI.
- An AI model (OpenAI GPT-5 mini) writes a short, neutral summary of each document from that document’s own official text.
- Before anything is published, an automated check rejects any summary that contains a number or a capitalised name not found in the document, two or more descriptive words the document does not use, a quotation, a link, a party label, loaded or opinion wording, an endorsement or a prediction. The check is automatic and can miss things. If a summary still fails after one rewrite, nothing is published for that run and the reason is logged; one retry runs the next day.
- No person edits the briefs. Each one is labelled AI-written, with the date and time it was made. Mistakes are possible: the official text is always the authority.
- The AI costs of the site are capped in software at one US dollar per day.
